The Gas Processors Association has changed its name to the GPA Midstream Association to reflect the fact more effectively that a growing number of its members are in the business of transporting petroleum to consumers.
The midstream sector of the petroleum industry is made up of companies that transport oil and gas from processors to distributors via truck, tanker or pipeline. The $4 million-revenue, Tulsa, Okla.-based association has been around since 1921, but membership has evolved as the industry has evolved.
"Plain and simple, we're no longer made up only of ‘gas processors' and, in reality, that's been the case for several years now," CEO Mark Sutton said. "Our membership today represents every aspect of the midstream industry and it's time that we make that claim."
The GPA Midstream Association is the fifth name for the group. It was founded as the Natural Gasoline Manufacturers before changing its name to Natural Gasoline Association of America in 1927. The group was renamed the Natural Gas Processors Association in 1961 before rebranding itself GPA in 1974.
The group opened its first Washington, D.C., office in 2015 and has a presence in the capitols of several energy-producing states. http://bit.ly/1Swvs0F
